Trudeau’s New Cabinet Tries to sent Pro Climate Message

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is trying to send a pro climate change message by appointing prominent environmentalist Steven Guilbeault from Quebec to take over the environment portfolio from Jonathan Wilkinson, who is moving to natural resources.

Wilkinson says that the cabinet now has two climate change champions. He says that he carries in commitment to transition from fossil fuel economy to fossil fuel free a net zero carbon emissions economy.

However it seems that it seems that the Trudeau government is still committed to growing the fossil fuel economy by continuing to expand the Trans Mountain Pipeline by doubling its capacity. If the Trudeau government really wants to transition to a fossil fuel free net Zero carbon emissions economy, then why do they have to expand the capacity of the Trans Mountain Pipeline. They can keep the pipeline in tact if they want to truly transition away from fossil fuels.

US President Joe Biden canceled the Key Stone Pipeline right after getting elected. That show real commitment to a transition. In the meantime Enbridge has just upgraded its line three pipeline, increasing the capacity of sending oil from Alberta south to Wisconsin without increasing its capacity, but by maximizing its capacity. So why does Trudeau government want to expand the Trans Mountain Pipeline while taking more environmental risks. If they are truly committed to a transition, then why not use the pipeline or maybe retrofit is to make is safer?

How can we head the UN Code Red climate emergency declaration saying that its’ already too late and that the only way to slow down the effects of climate change that we saw manifest in the heat wave we experienced this summer and predictions of la nina making is a much colder winter this year?

Canada has missed every climate change emission target so far. What can Guilbeault and Wilkinson to change that? What will they do in Scotland Cop 26 next week? I don’t believe that the Trudeau government is committed to climate change. If Trudeau wants to show commitment, then cancel the Trams Mountain expansion follow Biden’s example of cancelling Key Stone.
