Trudeau talks to Modi about Human rights in Ukraine but not India

Justin Trudeau recently met Indian prime minister Narendra Modi at the G7 summit.

While Prime Minister Justice Trudeau met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the G7 Summit, he talk about human rights violations in the Ukraine, but did not talk about human rights violations in India.

Human Rights activists were also the G7 pressing world leaders on human rights issues in India including the recent arrest of Teesta Setalvad a day after the decision of the Supreme Court of India to dismiss a petition filed by her along with Zakia Jafri against Modi, whose husband Ehsan Jafri was murdered during the 2002 Gujarat massacre.

The petition sought to investigate the role of PM Narendra Modi, who was then Gujarat’s Chief Minister. The Gujarat police lost no time arresting Teesta Setalvad and handing her over to the Crime Branch on Saturday (25 June 2022, Emergency Anniversary Day), who has stood with Ms. Jafri and other affected victims throughout the trial. The action is so cruel that Teesta has, in the written complaint, stated, “I fear seriously for my life.” The First Information Report (FIR) under which she has been detained also accuses the former Gujarat ADGP R.B Sreekumar and DIG Sanjiv Bhatt (who is already in jail in a concocted case) of conspiring to fabricate evidence, tutor witnesses, and abuse the process of law.

Trudeau also met with Rwanda President Paul Kagame at the Commonwealth conference in Kigali Rwanda recently and there he also talked the Kagame about human rights abuses by Russia in the invasion of Ukraine but did not talk to him Rwandan-backed rebels instigated fighting that has caused over 170,000 Congolese to flee their homes since November. Reportedly, Rwanda has deployed 500 troops to assist the M23 rebels. According to the UN, M23 was planning an attack on the major eastern city of Goma in the coming days.
